Goulburn Valley Water Piped To Melbourne

The Bracks government 1 billion dollar plan to update irrigation infrastructure, and build a major water pipeline from Melbourne to Shepparton has come under some scrutiny. The plan will stop leaks and prevent evaporation caused by current rundown infrastructure, and the water savings will be piped to Melbourne, farmers and the environment.

Some GV residents are concerned about the priority of water savings going to Melbourne before local farmers. The clear thing is to understand, this plan was only initiated to help increase dwindling water supplies for Melbourne. Melbourne is Australia second biggest city with a population of almost 4 million people, a population that needs more water resources then the million or so Victorian rural population.

People of the Goulburn Valley should feel blessed to be chosen for such a plan, not only for the huge amount of government investment and infrastructure building, but also for the water savings obtained not only for Melbourne but GV farmers as well.
